Bitter

Life Changing Books

It didn’t take Reese long to get to Eric’s home in Preston Hollow, a prominent neighborhood in North Dallas. When she got to the front gate, a security officer asked her name.

“Reeeeese…Keennedy!” She was highly intoxicated.

“Password please.”

“I…don’t have one! I’m here to pick up my daughter.”

When the security officer told her to wait one moment, Reese began beeping the horn like crazy. “Let me in this freakin’gate!”

Instead of paying her any attention, the officer turned his head like he was used to erratic behavior and called Eric’s house. After shaking his head up and down a few times, he put the phone down. “Mr. Kennedy wants to know do you have any idea what time it is?”

“I don’t give a damn what time it is. Tell his ass I’m not leaving until he opens the gate!”

The officer spoke to Eric a few more seconds before finally pushing a button. “Miss, I suggest you calm down,” he said as the huge iron gates slowly began to open.

“And I suggest you kiss my ass,” Reese shot back before pulling off in a rage.

Her tires screeched just like a drag racer as she sped through the upscale neighborhood, toward Eric’s 10,000 square foot house. But instead of parking in the driveway, Reese drove right onto the beautiful manicured lawn, killing the freshly planted carnations.

Slamming her gear in park, Reese opened the door and jumped out. “Sydney! Sydney! Get out here now!” she yelled to the top of her lungs.

When Eric heard the commotion, he immediately looked out the window and sighed. He couldn’t believe Reese’s car was stationed on his front lawn.

“Now, I’m convinced that bitch is crazy!”

“Who?” Melanie asked.

“My ex-wife!” When Reese continued to yell, Eric ran down the stairs and opened the front door. “Get in here! You’re embarrassing me!” He looked toward his neighbor’s house knowing the snooty white doctor would be peeking her head out the window soon.

“Where the hell is my daughter at?” Reese asked. She stood there with her hair all over the place like Angela Bassett in Waiting to Exhale when she set her husband’s clothes on fire.

Eric tied up his robe and walked toward her. “What the hell are you doing?” He grabbed Reese by the arm then pulled her into the house.

Walking into the home she once shared with Eric was like Deja Vu. Reese stood for a minute taking it all in, but something was different.

“So, how do you like the new décor?” a voice sounded.

Reese turned around to find Melanie standing behind her with a big smile on her face. “I wanted to make sure there were no traces of you around here so we threw all that old, ugly furniture out with the rest of the garbage. Too bad we forgot you!”

Reese looked at the tall, model-like white girl sideways. With exotic features, Reese had no idea what her nationality was. “What the fuck did you just say? Cause I’m handing out lollipops and ass whippings today and I’m fresh out of lollipops!”

As soon as Melanie said, “Whatever,” Reese ran up on her like a defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys. She was so fast Eric didn’t even have a chance to stop her. Reese immediately started pulling on Melanie’s long, dark brunette locks, and tackled her onto the floor.

“Bitch, I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time!” She grabbed a wad of Melanie’s hair and yanked with a vengeance.

As soon as Sydney heard her mother’s voice, she knew there was going to be some drama. She ran to the banister overlooking the foyer.

“Oh my God! Ma, stop!”

By the time Sydney ran downstairs, Eric had finally managed to pull Reese away. Melanie instantly started to wail from the pain of having her head pulled in all different directions. Eric was pissed! The fact that Reese had the nerve to come into his home and attack his girlfriend had him boiling. He also knew something like this was bound to happen so that’s why he tried to keep them from ever running into each other.

“Reese, what the hell is wrong with you?” Eric asked, pushing her into the living room. “Have you lost your mind?”

“Where’s my daughter?”

“I’m right here!” Sydney yelled.

“Get your stuff!” Reese snapped.

“She’s better off here,” Melanie managed to say from the floor.

“Winch, you want more!”

Sydney knew better than to challenge her mother at a time like this, so she instantly ran upstairs to grab her bag, taking two steps at a time.

“I told your ass several times that Sydney is not your daughter,” Reese shrieked, then pointed at Eric. “And she’s definitely not yours.” She gave Melanie an evil scowl. “Eric, I told you I didn’t want my daughter around that bitch, but you allowed Sydney to come over here anyway.”

“Look, don’t come in my house disrespecting my fiancée’,” Eric barked.

Reese rolled her eyes. “Fuck you and that white bitch!”

Eric really wanted to smack Reese across the face a few times, but he didn’t need any more bad publicity. “Get the hell out of my house, Reese.”

“As soon as my daughter gets down here I will, but not a minute before you sorry muthafucka.”

“I’m calling the police,” Melanie finally spoke, standing and walking toward the phone.

“Call the police! I’ll just tell them you brought my daughter over here without my permission. Can you say, kidnapping charge?” She looked at Melanie with her hands on her hips. “Your move, tramp!”

“Baby, its okay. You don’t have to call anyone, she’s a lightweight,” Eric replied in a sarcastic tone. He then looked back at Reese. “And for the record we didn’t kidnap your daughter, she didn’t come over here against her will.”

“Well, she didn’t have my permission to be over here either,” Reese stated. “She knows not to leave the house without me knowing.”

Sydney came running down the stairs. “You did give me permission. I asked you last night when you were laying in the bed. Don’t you remember?”

“Umm…I see somebody is throwing back a few too many,” Eric said. Reese shot him a look. “Oh yeah, I know all about it. Damn, has it gotten that bad,” he continued with a smirk.

“Shut the fuck up. You don’t know shit about me!” Reese turned to her daughter. “What have you been telling him?”

“Nothing,” Sydney mumbled, then but her bottom lip.

“Yeah right. How did you get over here?”

“Nia brought me,” Sydney replied.

“I think you’re lying about asking me anything, but I’ll talk to you about that in private. Let’s go!” Reese ordered.

Sydney wanted desperately to walk home because she knew her mother was going to scream and holler all the way home.

“Don’t come back, Reese, or the next time things might get ugly!” Eric shouted as Reese slammed the front door.
